Since 1986 TARA Labs has been producing interconnect cables with air-dielectric within the cables' construction. In 1998 the new air-tubeTM provided a state-of-the-art solution, suspending conductors apart in a uniform geometry within the Teflon® air-tube. We said that sound couldn't get any better.
We were wrong.
Introducing the new Series 2 RSC Air Interconnects. This evolution has emerged from our determination to minimize dielectric content of our cables even further and eliminate the colorations it causes. Our Air-Tube™ technology (the only one of its kind) had already eliminated primary insulation, allowing conductors to be suspended within galleries inside the central-core Teflon® tube. There was only one place to turn: the shield.
Using our proprietary new Air-Suspension™ filament system to displace the cable shield away from the conductors in an air-dielectric environment resulted in the breakthrough we were looking for. Even less dielectric, even more air. Listeners experience recorded sound the way it was meant to be heard.
Air-Suspension™ filament, a chemically treated, aerospace grade polyethylene extrusion that replaces the nylon braid used in Series 1 cables, is fitted over the Air-Tube, providing a larger web spacing with less dielectric material content. The increased separation between the shield and the central Air-Tube results in a signal that it neutral, transparent, and wonderfully free of the distortion and adverse sonic effects caused by typical insulation materials. Lesser quality materials like PVC absorb energy and release it back into the conductor out of phase with the audio signal, causing distortion and coloration in the highly audible mid-range and high frequencies. By insulating with pure air, and displacing the conductors farther from the shield, RSC Air Series 2 cables produce a sound that is extremely accurate and lifelike, with a soundstage that is magnificently detailed and spacious.
RSC Air Series 2 Interconnects use our proprietary Rectangular Solid Core® conductors. Nearly twenty years after their introduction, no other manufacturer has yet managed to duplicate their design (a solid, extruded conductor with a rectangular cross section) or rival their sound, which has been praised by audio critics and sound professionals the world over.
This is the cable for the listener who wants to improve the sonic reality of a home audio or home theater system without the expense of new components. Reasonably priced, they will pay huge dividends in the listener’s overall enjoyment of his system.
The original RSC Air 1 Interconnects and speaker cables received very positive reviews. Marc Mickelson of SoundStage examined TARA Labs RSC Air 1 Interconnects and Speaker Cables, RSC Air 75 Coaxial and RSC Air 110 AES/EBU Digital Cables . About the latter RSC Air cables he said they were "the very best cable of its type that I've used ." And Jude, in a review in the forum section of Head-Fi , described the TARA Labs RSC Air 1 Interconnects as "Simply Excellent." The article includes a Q&A interview with Garry Lambert of TARA Labs and a cut-away illustration of the cables built-in conductor-carrying channels.
TARA Labs has designed and manufactured high-end cables and accessories for home audio systems and home theater systems since 1986. They share their headquarters in Ashland, Oregon with high-end home theater component manufacturer EAD. Both companies are owned by the same financial group.
